I swear Noah has more fun at daycare than at home. He’s constantly busy and working on something and he’s surrounded by other kids all day. So he’s always entertained. At home, he gets bored super quickly. He walks around swinging his arms, looking for mischief to get into 90% of the day. Clearly we aren’t too exciting for the little guy. So, with a long Labor Day weekend, I knew we needed to come up with something fun for him to do.
We get pictures all throughout the day from daycare, which gives us a wonderful glimpse into his daily activities. It’s wonderful. So, knowing that he loves doing art projects, we opted to paint for his playroom. In our old house I painted a large canvas, using masking tape to create geometric shapes. It was easy, and super cute. So, I figured it would be a perfect project for Noah to help with.
So, I grabbed three rectangular canvases at Michael’s – thank you Labor Day Sale, the acrylic paint I used in the Alphabet Wall project, and some masking tape.
After laying the canvas out, I just started sporadically putting masking tape. For some of the lines, I covered all three boards to give it more of a cohesive look.
Then… I let my beast of a 17 month old have at it. We stripped him down to his diaper, set up an area in the garage and gave him free reign, as terrifying as it might be. I chose how to match up colors on each canvas (red/yellow/orange, blue/green/yellow, and red/blue/purple), but let him do the painting.
I’d be lying if I said it was super easy and stress-free. But hey, is anything easy or stress-free with a toddler?? Let’s just say we immediately took him up to the bath – he was a hot mess. But, he had fun, and we love watching his little mind figure things out. And, he did a great job! Cheap, easy artwork – can’t beat it. Here were the finished products, before we removed the masking tape! So happy with the color combos!
And…then with the masking tape removed! They fit perfectly in his playroom and bring a pop of extra color to the room!
Love getting crafty with my with sweet family! Hope everyone had great family time for the long, holiday weekend!
